New Patient Information
We’re here for you.
At Cohlmia Orthodontics we understand that when you’re looking for the right orthodontic practice that you want to feel comfortable, safe, and welcome. Here is some information for new patients. Feel free to schedule an appointment, or stop by for a tour of our office. You will get to meet our staff, walk through our office and treatment areas, and learn more about the different orthodontic treatments that we provide.
First step is the complimentary exam. During this visit, Dr. Cohlmia will carefully examine the teeth for a wide range of possible orthodontic problems, such as crowding, cross-bite, gaps, etc. Once Dr. Cohlmia determines the most likely course of treatment, he’ll sit down with you to discuss what type of treatment is recommended, approximate length of treatment and an estimate of the cost. By the end of the complimentary exam, you will have a better understanding of what you need to know in order to decide whether to proceed with treatment or not.
Next Steps After the Complimentary Exam
Once you decide to proceed with orthodontic treatment, we will make a Records Appointment for you. Complete diagnostic records include a medical/dental history, clinical examination but Dr. Cohlmia, study models of the teeth, photos of the patient’s face and teeth, and X-rays. All of this information is used to develop a custom treatment plan for each patient. These records are also used to track the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care.
After all these diagnostic records are thoroughly evaluated, Dr. Cohlmia will explain your personal treatment plan to you in detail, including the cost.
After the Records Appointment, we will schedule your next appointment to get the new appliance (braces, expanders, etc.) placed. This first appliance appointment usually takes one to two hours. Next you will see us at regular intervals for adjustments four to twelve weeks apart which takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately.
